The SunSpot offers a full-spectrum approach to beating seasonal blues and vitamin D deficiency

The further one lives north of the equator, the less sunshine hits the surface of the earth or enters the body.
Less sunshine creates 2 major problems:
A lot of folks get depressed.
Almost all are Vitamin D deficient.
Our mission is to eradicate winter depression and vitamin D deficiency while nurturing community.

Broad Spectrum Light

12 10,000 lumen lights help regulate serotonin and melotonin levels in the body keeping one alert and up-beat during the dark long months of winter.  30 minutes of light each day makes one feel more energetic, craving less carbs and maintaining proper circadian rhythms for proper sleep cycles.

Vitamin Rich and Specific Foods

During the winter months folks tend to hibernate just as the animals do and loading up for winter (sleep & carbs) is a natural inclination.  Foods rich in calcium, vitamins B, C, D and  K, Magnesium, Manganese, Omega 3 and Tryptophan are needed. All foods offered are simple, organic (when available) and rich in the nutrients needed to manufacture and harness vitamin D, bring calcium to bones and teeth and out of arteries while managing mood through the regulating of circadian rhythms during the normal daily body clock.

UVB Light

4 UVB bulbs give us all the specific ray of the sun that helps us manufacture vitamin D through the skin.  30 minutes of light that includes UVB gives us our daily dose of what we need to manufacture vitamin D, a vitamin and hormone most of us across the globe are deficient in.  In the northern hemisphere, at least 71% of us are deficient.

Community

The cold, dark days of fall-spring in places like Duluth, MN are truly long and hard.  In our geographic neck of the woods, about 75% of us are vitamin D deficient, 20% of us suffer from the "winter blues" and 6% suffer from S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder).  Winter also brings "hibernation" meaning many close off interaction with our social network and even the gal at the grocery store.  Loneliness  begets depression and affects health in real and verifiable ways.  The SunSpot's mission is to create a place for folks to gather, get healthful light, eat the right foods and interact with folks that can become a new social network.
